Speedwork....

Just as it sounds....we worked on our speed two nights ago. We did 5 x 400 around the Beaumont circle. It was a new experience for both Abby and I. We've never been THAT serious about running. However, since we're following this Hal Higdon schedule, we are trying to stay on track as much as possible. The first 400 wasn't too bad, but let me tell you, by the end of the run we were both exhausted and our legs weren't willing to go much further. We had to walk a few times between sprints to regain our breath, but that's to be expected when you've never done something like this before. Tonight is a run and strength training. I will be doing this workout at the gym (boring treadmill). It's getting dark so early now and I don't like it! However, it has finally started to cool off and feel like fall. This makes my runs much more enjoyable! Tomorrow I plan to hit the pavement with the dogs early in the morning and run 6 miles. We may go to the arboretum for a change of scenery, but we'll see how I feel in the morning.

Last night was a day of rest which was much needed after the speedwork on Wednesday.

The beginning of the 1/2 marathon training!

Last night was a long and short night. My day was the typical get up, go to work, eat lunch, work some more, and then go home. Once home, I changed to go running with Abby. While I was waiting for her to arrive, I picked up some things that were laying around the house, played with the dogs and began to fix dinner. Then, one of the neighbor kids came by selling little chochkies and knick-knacks for a school fundraiser. You know the deal. As I was going through the catelogue Abby and Jonathan showed up. So I wrapped up my order with a kid I don't even know his name because he mumbled worse than Derek! ......Abby and I hit the road for our 3+ mile run as we train for a 1/2 marathon. I took Bear with me and lets just say he was exhausted when I got home not to mention that it's the middle of October and it's still 80+ degrees out!
When we got back to the house we had to shovel some food in and get out the door to head to our volleyball game. Let's just say we didn't win, but we played well at times. Our team just needs a little more consistency, but since we never have the same 6 people that makes it quite difficult! Maybe next week! When the night was over I was exhausted! I don't know how some people do it! Tonight is 5x400 for our training. We'll see how this goes. It's the first time that Abby and I have done this. I'm pretty sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow. All I have to say is.....thank goodness tomorrow is just a normal run!
